"Consequences" runs until 23.11
- Nov 07, 2024
Until November 23rd, 2024, Urban Spree Galerie presents "Consequences", a duo show presenting the most recent works of the Czech multimedia artists Matěj Janák and Jan Slanina.
Exploring internet culture, memes, absurd scrolling, Matěj Janák and Jan Slanina propose a joyous voyage through our over consumption of images and screen time. Absurd and funny at the same time, the show is a perfect dive into our fast paced reality.
In essence, the DNA of the show mixes AI, internet scrolling, sticky memes, hand-pulled neons, burnt trash bins, opportunity for selfies, burner phones, consumerist bas-reliefs, Bruce Lee and more stuff.
The individual pieces satirically reflect fragments of modern society and cultural icons, with the violent multiplication of certain elements accentuating this effect. In their works, both artists present a caricature of contemporary social values. This theme, which both artists repeatedly explore, now converges under the metaphorical title of the exhibition "Consequences", which subtly raises questions about the social prospects of the future society. The intensity of this theme is further emphasised by the use of techniques including 3D reliefs and neon lights.
