EGS opens "Embassy of EGS" at Didrichsen Museum in Helsinki
- May 27, 2024
EGS has a new museum show opening in Finland at the private Didrichsen museum in Helsinki (07.06-25.08 2024). He has been working for over a year to produce a global exhibition, encompassing all forms of art (site-specifc installations, paintings, glass sculptures, graffiti works, works on paper).
The exhibition transforms the Didrichsen Art Museum into an Embassy of an imaginary State, the "Republic of EGS", where the republic is a territory in the artist’s mind, a place that encompasses his entire creative output. The Embassy offers visitors six entry points to the Republic of EGS: geography, folklore, language, identity, landscape and subterranea, the underground.
The Didrichsen Art Museum is situated by the sea on Kuusisaari island in western Helsinki. Originally the building was used as the private home of the family Marie-Louise (1913–1988) and Gunnar Didrichsen (1903–1992). The Didrichsen Art Museum was constructed in two phases (1957 & 1964), and both sections of the building were designed by architect Viljo Revell. The museum holds three exhibitions each year. The collection consists of around one thousand items, comprising Finnish and international twentieth-century art, as well as examples from ancient Asian and Latin American cultures. The museum is surrounded by a public sculpture park, which is always open.
