Opening of Howtokillagraffiti new solo show "Sumer Pieces"

Urban Spree Galerie presents « Sumer Pieces », the much-awaited follow-up exhibition of Howtokillagraffiti at Urban Spree. The show opens on Saturday, June 1st and will be on display until July 13th, 2024.

« Here comes the Summer » chanted in unison the Undertones in 1979 and we can also take the title of the show for what is literally is: an assertion that something has shifted in the painter’s position to the world, that an acceptance, an openness has occurred. Take the bull by the horns. A new season starts. Letters are visible, colors are deep, vibrant and flamboyant. "Sumer Pieces" marks a return of the artist to the origin of writing (Sumer, one of the first known civilizations and cradle of writing), but also to the assertion of his graffiti writer’s name of 20 years « Sumer ». What was concealed, cryptically encapsulated under an ever growing and smothering entrelacs of vine is now left in the open, fully assumed, claimed. The graffiti writer and the painter can co-exist in the same visual universe. Summer peace.

« Sumer Pieces » opens the next chapter in the artist’s journey, a focus on medium-sized works and most importantly, a reconnection with graffiti as a form of freedom, as a necessity to break the rules and affirm the indelible presence of graffiti in painting.
