Repainting Subway Art: Berlin Release of the Book + Special Exhibition opening on 17.01.2025

The Dutch graffiti artist Tripl has interpreted and recreated the book Subway Art (Thames & Hudson, 1984) by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant in his own unique way. Hereby offering a huge shout-out and homage to the original graffiti writers, photographers, and the global graffiti movement. The publication Repainting Subway Art (Ruyzdael Publishing, Amsterdam, 2024) is the culmination of a tribute to the inventiveness and creativity that have inspired over 40 years of graffiti and the continuation of a dialogue with the makers of the original book and graffiti as a whole.

The text has been (re-)written by Dr. Edward Birzin aka Dumar Novy, author of the dissertation Subway Art(fact) (2019), What Do One Million Tags Signify? (2017) and Nov York (2002).

Repainting Subway Art is available at Urban Spree Bookshop. We will hold a book release on January 17th, 2025, together with an exhibition about the Repainting Subway Art project, curated by Jasper van Es. The exhibition will be held from 17.01.2025 to 01.03.2025
