Axel Void
Axel Void (Alejandro Hugo Dorda Mevs) was born in Miami in 1986 to a Haitian mother and a Spanish father. He was raised in Spain from the age of three, where he was strongly influenced by classical painting and drawing. Axel Void has been in contact with graffiti writing since 1999. He studied Fine Arts in Cádiz, Granada, and Sevilla, and was based in Berlin for 3 years before moving to Miami in 2013, and later to NYC where he currently lives and works.
He moves between all kinds of different media such as mural, installation, oil and acrylic painting, audio/video recordings & drawings, which all display his radical and often disturbing vision, driven by a passionate interest in the art of storytelling. Axel's compositions are presented with almost journalistic intrigue with a focus on people as part of a global community. He explores the cultural and social structures which regulate our interactions and habits, whereby the ordinary is elevated through his passionate reimagining, whimsical compositions. He is an accomplished muralist, and painted walls in many cities and events across the globe (Nuart Festival, Dismaland curated by Banksy, Urban Art Biennale in Völklinger-Hütte...).
He is an art teacher, curator and multidisciplinary artist, as well as the driving force behind Void Projects, a cultural platform creating ‘pop up’ series of artist-led projects to encourage a public dialogue outside of the conventional art space.
