Arriving a generation after founders like Death in June, Sol Invictus, and Current 93, OF THE WAND & THE MOON have breathed new life into this beautiful and perennially misunderstood genre. OF THE WAND & THE MOON’s 2011 The Lone Descent LP is widely regarded as a neofolk masterpiece. OF THE WAND & THE MOON is the creative live and recorded music works of Danish musician Kim Larsen (not to be confused with the Danish folk singer by the same name) and various guest contributors. After irreconcilable differences with his previous musical project, Saturnus, Larsen began writing music of a different vein, similar in style to his neofolk influences but very different than the doom metal he had previously created. Det Stora Alvaret is a particularly barren plain situated on Öland off the eastcoast of Sweden, from which arid soils the mysterious spectre of ALVAR has risen. On Deceivers, the duo’s debut, we’re treated to some grade a horror electronics, formed by equal measures of hook-laden minimal synth and arafna cultura steeped technoire. Add a healthy does of the windswept gloom endemic to these parts of Sweden, and you get this: seriously apocal-hypnotic dance music, guaranteed to leave you dancing all the way to Ragnarök. PHILIPP STROBEL, head of the Berlin-based label aufnahme + wiedergabe, is one half of the DEATH # DISCO DJ team. Together with Ian P. Christ he runs the monthly club night in Berlin with changing international live acts and well reputed DJs, offering the best in Cold Wave, Minimal, Synth, Post Punk, Industrial and Electronic Underground Sounds. He is also part of the endorcism crew which is organizing Noise, Power Electronics, Avantgarde and Experimental events under the umbrella of Modern Movement. Since autumn 2000 RAUBBAU has been active in and around Berlin with (co)-booking, (co)-promoting, (co)-financing and (co)-organizing performances and festivals. In 2007 RAUBBAU also became a record label with releases by Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Thorofon, Con-Dom, Megaptera, Control and many other leading industrial acts.
