Tempers create dark, ice-cold electronica blended with a sinister disco and danceable beats, their pop melodies floating in an almost gothic, industrial soundscape.
Tempers are NYC-based duo Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper. Jasmine, born in Florida, is of Latvian-Iranian descent, and grew up in Paris and London before moving to New York. She has recorded and performed as musician for most of her life and her visual art, primarily collage, has been shown in galleries throughout New York. Eddie is a NYC native who spent years in Berlin, where he released records on electronic labels like !K7 and Eskimo. The pair describe their collaboration in an uncommon way: "We have these sort of unspoken criteria when we're writing music together. We never really need to explain what that is but we both know when it's missing or when we've hit it." Through this telepathic understanding they create an emotional and tonal tension of sensual and mechanical impulses.
Their previous singles, Eyes Wide Wider b/w Hell Hotline (Feb, 2013) mixed by Damian Taylor (Bjork); Strange Harvest (April, 2013); the cover of Swans’ Killing for Company (Aug, 2013) and What Isn’t There (Nov, 2013) - all released via Pendu Sound – received blanket coverage across US and UK’s biggest tastemaker blogs including Pitchfork, The Fader, V Magazine, Nylon, Under The Radar, Brooklyn Vegan, BULLETT, Vice, Interview, Drowned in Sound and DIY. Hell Hotline was later remixed by 4AD’s bEEdEEgEE (Brian DeGraw of Gang Gang Dance), premiering on Dummy.
Now Tempers are set to release their debut album Services, self-produced and mixed by Tempers in NYC (with the exception of tracks Eyes Wide Wider which was mixed by Damian Taylor and Undoing by Kevin McMahon, Swans’ producer). The album is released digitally and on vinyl on 23 October via Berlin-based label aufnahme + wiedergabe.
