About

The book includes an original photograph from the artist’s childhood taken on visits to the graveyards to play with his family. The pictire is signed and numbered.

The photographs were taken in France, in the Nord, Pas de Calais and Somme regions, where most of the fighting in the First World War took place.

Aymeric Fouquez's work is above all about memory, memorials and their current environment. It captures the paradoxical memorial sites of the North of France. These overcast rural landscapes juxtapose a slow, mundane pace of life with the sinister presence of grave sites, a constant reminder of collective loss and political turmoil. In the white light of the northern winter, we find the military cemeteries and the great plains of the north.
