About

Wicked New York" tells of the brutality and rivalry between the gangs, corrupt politicians and the Draft Riots, the violent riots of 1863 that plunged New York into the worst chaos in its history.
The steadily growing metropolis was marked by corruption within an extreme class society. Civil war-like unrest was the result of social tensions: Fights between old-established and immigrants for work, housing and a place in society were the order of the day.

Corrupt politicians and parties, who were irreconcilably hostile to each other, further divided New York. Politicians made use of the influential and powerful gangs, which in many places took over the role of the police and offered protection to the poor: The Bowery Boys, the Dead Rabbits, Forty Thieves, Plug Uglies and Chichesters

Felix Gephart (b.1986 in Bochum, West Germany), started his way into the art world by practicing graffiti at a young age, and later formally studied graphic design and art in Münster, Dortmund and at the New York School of Visual Arts. He lives and work in Berlin.
