Since the start of his career as a photographer, Kobayashi has consistently produced work with bold digital processing, as exemplified by the brushstroke (smudge) technique. At the same time, however, he has been pursuing the relationship between digital expression and the 'body' in parallel, especially after moving his base of operations to Shonan.
In Reflex, based on photographs of Ginza landscapes such as building facades, strokes are used as a base, and in addition to strokes, circles and linear images are incorporated as a new attempt at processing, creating a mirror image world unique to Ginza that does not lose the city's unique character and temperature despite its abstraction.
