About

First published in 1997, this book is the story of the Berlin based graffiti writer ODEM. The texts, written by Jürgen Deppe and ODEM bring us to the rise and sudden fall of the latest, who passed away in 2016.

Recognised as an emblematic figure of the graffiti movement in the 80s and 90s, ODEM inspired many of the next generation of writers with his approach to style-writing. The book ODEM: ON THE RUN was and still is a reference for many of them.

ODEM: ON THE RUN traces the breathless rise and sudden fall of the Berlin graffiti sprayer ODEM, who started out as a small tagger who put his abbreviation on every underground train and attempted his first pieces as a crew member, then became part of a youth scene that met daily at Friedrichstraße underground station, before finally becoming internationally known as the king of the scene and feared for his unscrupulousness.

ODEM: ON THE RUN is the authentic account of a young man in the big city at the beginning of the 1990s. As fascinating as it is shocking, this book makes the young people's enthusiasm for graffiti understandable and at the same time sheds light on the dark side of a scene in which fun and action are just as commonplace as violence and crime, alcohol and drugs.

Among the featured writers in the book are AMOK, BISAZ, BUS126, INKA, KAGE, LAZER, LOOMIT, LOVER, POET, PHOS4, KAOS, MAXIM, MORE, Adrian Nabi, ROC, SHEK, ....
