About
Urban Spree Editions presents a very limited cyanotype edition by Axel Void. Conceived as part of the "Dé Yé Chen Gen Chyen" exhibition at Urban Spree, the cyanotype has been produced by the Berlin-based photographer Norman Behrendt (author of the "Blueprint" photobook). Norman was keen to experiment alongside Axel, who was sensitive to the photographic process and the transmutation of paintings to an experimental photographic language, with a touch of randomness and mystery.
A cyanotype is an alternative, artisanal photographic technique developed in the mid-19th century. It is a photographic printing formulation sensitive to ultraviolet and blue light spectrum. It produces a monochrome, blue coloured print.
Each print of the series achieves a different visual outcome, owing to the chemical reaction and many other factors.
Moreover, alongside the motive of the knife, which is the key visual of the exhibition, the series of prints comes with a short story written by Axel Void. Each print is inscribed with a portion of the full story, handwritten in a blue pencil.
Therefore each holder of the print becomes the partial repository and keeper of the full scroll.
Each print becomes unique, visually and in terms of contents. It is printed on a smooth, 250g/sm archival paper with 4 deckled edges.
Each print will be sent on a random basis.
