You can't categorise Sudden Infant. It is a unique band. Some say they hear influences from Birthday Party, Psychic TV and Butthole Surfers, others evoke the minimalism of Happy Flowers and Virgin Prunes. The fact is, Sudden Infant go all the way and constantly surprise with unpredictable twists and crazy dadaistic ideas. This band is an adventure, both on record and on stage.
Joke Lanz and Sudden Infant once again return in their razor sharp trio setting whereby the absurdist nature that Joke’s work is already cut with is reconfigured in a gnarled and beefy punk-fucked contorted rock setting. Short bursts of angular flex are heavily propelled by depth-charge rhythms, wry lyrical musings on modern living, and sensibilities hatched from years of experience in the worlds of sound art, abstract music, industrialised junk-noise and related areas have manifested in the perfect follow up to 2018’s Buddhist Nihilism album on Harbinger Sound.
Guest vocals on Il y a des Enfant by Franz Treichler (The Young Gods).

Joke Lanz
For almost 30 years, Joke Lanz has certainly been one of the most prominent and creative heads of the international noise and performance scene. Whether with the Schimpfluch group, with Sudden Infant or as a turntablist and performer, Joke Lanz destroys expectations and safety nets, breaks open, irritates and fascinates. He has collaborated with Christian Marclay and was remixed by Thurston Moore. He has shared stage and physical fierceness with Peter Kowald, Shelley Hirsch, Z'EV, Mette Rasmussen, Sophie Agnel and many others. The list is long. Years ago, Joke Lanz played Adolf Wölfli in a play by Meret Matter.

After releasing a string of tapes with rotating personal of the industrial scene this reincarnation of the WALKING KORPSES offers a nearly classic orchestration with members whose bands and projects could fill easily two pages of this review. Only it wouldn‘t make you any smarter concerning the sound of the band. Alright mentioning DIÄTS drummer Christian Iffland might give you a hint, just because he‘s a damn good drummer. This is a throbbing post-punk/industrial massacre made by people who know how to butcher. The group around vocalist Jason Honea (SOCIAL UNREST BLABLA) can without hestitation be measured with FLIPPER, BUTTHOLE SURFERS, CHROME, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and BRAINBOMBS. They sound catchy and plausible just before they put the drill against your head. Like a fat yellow zit, sickening and fascinating at the same time finally leaving you at ease and relieved after it popped with a bang. Highly recommend for anyone who‘s fond of any of the mentioned Bands above craving fresh fodder. ( KH Stille, OX Magazine )
